Miss Nigeria beauty pageant started as a photo contest ack in 1957. Contestants had to submit their photos and finalists were shortlisted to compete in Lagos Island club. Grace Atinuke Oyelude was crowned the first ever Miss Nigeria in 1957.

Grace Oyelude is a retired nurse who emerged winner of Miss Nigeria back in 1957. She hails form Kogi but grew up in northern part of Nigeria, Kano which she represented during the competition.
Before the competition, Grace had dreams of going to study nursing and was working in Nigeria in hopes of achieving her dreams. After winning the competition, Grace went on to fulfill her dreams and resumed a nursing school in England.
Shortly after resumption, she was officially crowned Miss Nigeria. The now 85-year-old grandma has achieved a lot in the medicine area and holds two chieftaincy titles; Iyaolu of Isaluland and Iyalode of Okunland.
